Winter is officially here!

The snow has arrived. It arrived last for the first time last Thursday (13 December) mid day. It accumulated quickly and made for a slippery ride home. During my 2.5 hour drive home I saw numerous plows. What I don't get is why were they traveling blade up? Hey plow trucks, if you can drive on the roads, you can plow it.

Despite lack of plowing and sanding at the onset of the storm, Weymouth did an above average job of plowing this time around. Corners at intersections were pushed back, sand was applied very liberally and streets were plowed curb to curb. The following Saturday the town trucks were out and about sanding and clearing sidewalks.

It is now Sunday morning (16 December) and the next storm is upon us. It is snowing at the rate of an inch an hour but the snow is supposed to turn to rain at some point in time.

The innaugration for mayor elect Sue Kay is set for 02 January 2008. The event will take place at Abigail Adams Middle School and the public is invited. Seating is first come, first seat and the doors open at 9:30 AM.

That is all I have to report at this time!

In a few short weeks, we will welcome a new mayor and 4 new town council members. Congratulations to the next Mayor of Weymouth Sue Kay who will take the helm in January and lead Weymouth forward for the next 4 years. New additions to the town council are District 5 councilor Ed Harrington, District 1 councilor Victor Papp, Councilors at large Bob Conlon and Brian McDonald. Continuing on the council are District2 TJ Lacey, District 3 councilor Ken DiFazio, District 4 councilor Arthur Matthews, Disctrict 6 councilor Michael Smart and Councilors at Large Patrick O'Connor, Mike Molisse and Kevin Whitaker.

The new administration has their work cut out for them. Their are contracts to resolve and budgets to prepare, Southfield to watch over and Greenbush construction to see to completion, parks to upgrade and public safety to improve. The list is endless but Sue and the town council are up to the challenge.

Happy Veterans Day!

Happy Veterans Day, all. Be sure to thank a vet today for everything they have done for us in the past and continue to do for us in the present as well as the future.

The Veterans Day parade in Weymouth was out standing. The crowd along the parade route was bundled up in their early winter attire as the bright sun provided little warmth. The parade participants were Mayor Madden and Mayor elect Sue Kay, the town council and school committee, veterans, veterans and more veterans, Weymouth Fire Department, The Weymouth High School Wildcat Band, a huge number of scouts from all over Weymouth, Boy Scout Troop 2 drum band, the South Shore Corvette Club.

Look for the parade and services on cable access.
